Stay connected with nature, it is a portal to the mind of God. Take a walk outside in the morning and feel the sunshine on your face. Take off your shoes in the park and feel the earth beneath your feet. Walk outside at night and breathe the coolness of the air. Stare up at the moon and the stars and feel their mystical light at play in the sky and upon the objects around you. Interact with your dog or cat in a mindful, attentive way – talk to them, pet them, look into their eyes, and realize that there is a spirit behind those eyes, looking back at you. Go where there are trees and notice the color of the leaves, the movements and sounds of the birds, the changing of the seasons. Go to the ocean or to a river and walk along the edge of the shore, breathing the air, listening to the movement of the water. Take the time to watch a sunset – to really watch a sunset – from start to finish. There are a multitude of life-affirming gifts all around us, if we are just willing to slow down, seek them out, and mindfully experience them.
Happy New Year, everyone. I wish you all a year filled with health, happiness, and life-affirming experiences around every turn.
“Golden Eyes” | Anthony Satori
“I felt deep within me that the highest point a man can attain is not Knowledge or Virtue or Goodness or Victory, but something even greater, more heroic and more inspiring: Sacred Awe.”
– Nikos Kazantzakis
And the beauty of it is this: The very experiencing of Sacred Awe, in turn, inspires a deep hunger for knowledge, virtue, and goodness.
“Dolphins” | Anthony Satori
“Happiness is the absence of the striving for happiness.”
– Chuang Tzu
Relax. Exist fully in this moment. This is enough. You are enough. This moment is a miracle. Find the love in it, find the peace in it, find the joy in it. It is often the frantic chasing of happiness that makes us the most miserable. Instead, just sit back, breathe, and calm your mind. Be grateful. Be amazed. Be content. “From contentment, supreme happiness is obtained.” (Patanjali,Yoga Sutra 2.42) It is only when we learn to relax into true contentment that any real, lasting happiness can appear and manifest itself.
“Butterflies” | Anthony Satori
“Giddy grasshopper \ Take care \ Do not leap and crush \ These pearls of dewdrop.”
– Kobayashi Issa
Be gentle with yourself. Show yourself patience. Handle yourself with kindness. The human heart is deep and tender, and it ought to be surrounded by love, even immersed in it. Let us take care to do this for each other, every day. Let us also not forget to do this for ourselves. Being human is not easy. This journey is not for the faint of heart. Every day that you make it through – perhaps having endured some sadness, hopefully having experienced some joy – is a good day, worthy of celebration. Well done! Don’t rush forward. Take it slowly. Tomorrow is another day, another chance to wake up, to take a deep breath, and to engage again with the deep, beautiful mystery of the universe.
