“Reason, ruling alone, is a force confining. Passion, unattended, is a flame that burns to its own destruction. Therefore let passion exalt your reason, so that it may sing; and let reason direct your passion, so that it may live.”
“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the afternoon.”
– Genesis 3:8
How amazing to be so familiar with God, that you would recognize the sound of Him walking in the garden. It is such a beautiful idea to imagine, and a worthy aspiration to pursue. I believe that every effort we make toward cultivating our inner connection with the universe – whether it is through nature, prayer, love, careful study, or quiet meditation – brings us closer to reattaining this level of intimacy with the spirit of God.
“To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one’s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one’s own mind. If you can control your mind you can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to you.”
If we focus our hearts and minds on the good and beautiful things that we truly desire, then 1) they will be drawn to us, 2) we will recognize them when they arrive, and 3) we will have the courage, strength, and faith to grab ahold of them and make them our own.
